23 years in the making! Ginbee Go set to take BPI’s top job, TG Limcaoco to remain on board

Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) has named veteran executive Maria Cristina “Ginbee” Go as its next president and chief executive officer, succeeding Jose Teodoro “TG” Limcaoco as the Ayala-led lender positions itself for further growth in consumer banking and digital financial services.

Go, currently executive vice president and head of consumer banking, will assume the post on April 26, 2027, following BPI’s annual stockholders’ meeting, subject to regulatory approvals.

The appointment marks a leadership transition at the 175-year-old bank after five years under Limcaoco, who oversaw its expansion in digital banking, financial inclusion and sustainability.

BPI chairman Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala said the succession would allow the bank to build on those gains while responding to growing demand for financial services among Filipino consumers.

“TG has brought BPI to tremendous new heights as CEO over the past five years, and we are grateful for the strong platform that we will now be building upon,” Zobel said.

He also expressed confidence in Go’s leadership, citing opportunities arising from an increasingly sophisticated consumer market despite economic uncertainty.

“Amidst some volatility in the global and domestic environment, there are notable opportunities, particularly as the Filipino consumer sector grows, becomes more sophisticated, and seeks a trusted partner in achieving financial stability and success,” he said.

Limcaoco’s five-year legacy

Since becoming CEO in 2021, Limcaoco has steered BPI through the post-pandemic recovery, expanding its customer base to more than 19 million and overseeing a workforce of over 23,000 employees.

During his tenure, the bank strengthened its technology infrastructure and cybersecurity capabilities while broadening access to financial services through agency banking and digital platforms.

BPI also delivered record financial performance, while Limcaoco was named Best Bank CEO in the Philippines by The Asian Banker in 2026.

Following the leadership handover, Limcaoco will remain on BPI’s board and take on senior governance roles across major operating companies of the Ayala Group.

Banking veteran takes the helm

Go brings 23 years of experience at BPI, where she has played a key role in expanding its consumer banking operations and introducing artificial intelligence-enabled financial services.

She previously served as president of BPI Family Savings Bank, overseeing its integration into the parent bank.

Go also sits on the boards of Ayala Foundation, TransUnion Philippines, BPI Direct BanKo and BPI MS Insurance Corp.

Before joining BPI, she held leadership positions at Citibank, Ayala Land and Procter & Gamble.

A certified public accountant who topped the 1991 licensure examinations, Go graduated magna cum laude from the University of the Philippines Diliman and earned an MBA with honors from Harvard Business School.

Her appointment places a seasoned consumer banking executive at the helm of one of the Philippines’ largest lenders as it seeks to build on its digital transformation and capture opportunities in the country’s evolving retail banking market.
