JP Morgan wants to help put PH stocks back on investors’ radar

JPMorgan Chase & Co. is exploring ways to help deepen the Philippine equity market and attract more investors, as policymakers seek to boost trading activity and broaden participation in the local bourse.

JPMorgan Asset Management executives Chang Qi Ong and Nicholas Wong recently met with Philippine finance officials to discuss measures aimed at improving market liquidity and encouraging greater participation from retail and institutional investors.

Finance Secretary Frederick Go was represented at the meeting by Department of Finance Undersecretary Maria Angela Ignacio.

The discussions covered strategies used in Singapore and other regional markets that could be adapted to the Philippines to help increase trading activity and support the development of the country’s capital markets.

The meeting comes as Philippine authorities seek ways to make the domestic stock market more competitive and attractive to investors.
