The Social Security System’s (SSS) voluntary retirement savings program recorded a 6.2 percent average return on investment (ROI) from January to May 2026, outperforming state benchmark rates.
The performance of the SSS Pension Booster Program, formerly known as the Voluntary Provident Fund, slowed from the 6.83 percent return logged in 2025 due to interest rate adjustments implemented by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP).
However, the five-month yield remained above the prevailing 91-day Treasury bill rate, which averaged approximately 4.77 percent year-to-date.
“The continued strong performance of the SSS Pension Booster underscores our commitment to protecting the financial future of Filipino workers,” Finance Secretary and Social Security Commission ex-officio chair Frederick D. Go said in a statement.
Total contributions to the fund grew 21.8 percent to P699 million n 2025 from P574 million the previous year. To maintain capital growth, the state pension fund waived its 1 percent management fee on all accounts from 2025 through 2028.
The booster plan allows members to save a minimum of P500, with no maximum contribution cap. The pooled capital is deployed across government securities, corporate bonds, fixed-income instruments, equities, and money market assets, with tax-free earnings credited proportionately to members.
SSS president and CEO Robert Joseph M. de Claro credited disciplined portfolio management for the returns, adding that members can track monthly compounding gains through the state portal.
“The strong performance of the Pension Booster demonstrates disciplined and professionally managed savings,” de Claro said. “Planning and saving for retirement should begin early. The longer the members stay invested, the greater their potential returns.”
