Overseas Filipino workers are being encouraged to channel more of their remittances into long-term investments and savings as they prepare for life after working abroad.
The message was a key focus at the OFW Kabuhayan Expo 2026, where banks and fintech firms promoted programs aimed at helping migrant workers build sustainable income streams, start small businesses and strengthen their financial safety nets.
BDO Unibank partnered with Xoom during the event to promote financial preparedness initiatives designed to support OFWs transitioning into entrepreneurship and formal savings.
“We want to help OFWs make the most of every remittance—not only to support their families today, but also to build lasting opportunities for the future,” Genie Gloria, BDO senior vice president and remittance head, said.
The campaign comes as personal remittances continue to underpin domestic consumption and remain one of the Philippines’ largest sources of foreign exchange inflows.
