BPI fast-tracks green transition across 100 branches

Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) has shifted 100 branches to full renewable energy operations.

The bank recently added 30 branches to its renewable energy portfolio through the Department of Energy’s Retail Aggregation Program.

The framework allows BPI to pool power demand across multiple sites to meet the 100-kilowatt threshold required to negotiate directly with renewable energy suppliers for more competitive pricing.

“Leadership in banking today includes taking decisive action toward a low-carbon future, not only by financing the transition for others, but by transforming our own footprint,” said Eric Luchangco, BPI’s chief finance and sustainability officer.

On the consumer side, the bank is promoting “Solar Mortgages” and zero-percent installment plans for home solar systems, alongside electric vehicle financing, to capture growing demand for green credit.

BPI said its Sustainable Development Finance Program has deployed P376 billion across 532 projects spanning renewable energy and energy efficiency.

The bank remains committed to a full exit from coal power generation financing by 2032.
