Metrobank: Filipinos choose SUVs over sedans, houses over condos

Filipino households continue to channel their borrowing power into practical, family-centered investments, with sports utility vehicles (SUVs) and house-and-lot properties topping loan applications, according to Metropolitan Bank & Trust Co. (Metrobank).

Home loan applicants overwhelmingly favor house-and-lot developments over condominiums and townhouses, reflecting the enduring aspiration for larger spaces and multigenerational living.

Property consultants report steady demand for horizontal housing in suburban areas, where families seek community-oriented neighborhoods and room to expand.

Housing remains a cornerstone of financial planning. Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas studies show property ownership is closely tied to long-term wealth building and financial security, underscoring why homes remain one of the most important goals for Filipino households.

In the automotive sector, SUVs have overtaken sedans as the preferred vehicle type among borrowers. Their seating capacity, durability, and versatility for family use make them the dominant choice.

Industry data confirm that SUVs, pickups, and vans account for the bulk of sales, highlighting consumer preference for space and flexibility in everyday travel.

These choices reveal how Filipino families approach major financial decisions: collectively, with long-term priorities in mind.

Big-ticket purchases such as homes and vehicles are weighed against emergency savings, healthcare needs, and rising household expenses.

To support these aspirations, Metrobank has relaunched its Goals Made Real promo, running until May 29, 2026.

Borrowers applying for home or car loans during the period can access low interest rates, waived fees of up to P60,000, and free one-year AXA car insurance for car loan applicants. Applications must be approved and booked by July 31, 2026.
