GSIS rolls out P7.3B refunds under gov’t relief initiative

The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) has disbursed P7.3 billion in loan amortization refunds to more than half a million state workers and pensioners as part of a nationwide economic relief initiative.

As of 5 p.m. on April 20, the GSIS had processed and confirmed the eligibility of 525,447 members, representing nearly 90% of the 598,420 total applications received under the “Balik Ginhawa” program.

The state fund has instructed partner banks to credit a total of P 7.5 billion to accounts, with the remaining balance expected to be settled within the coming working days.

The program is a key component of the Unified Package for Livelihoods, Industry, Food, and Transport (UPLIFT), a multi-agency response activated by the President to mitigate rising living costs for Filipino families.

“Ang Balik Ginhawa ay tumatalima sa utos ng mahal na Pangulo na makapagbigay ng agarang tulong sa aming mga miyembro at pensyonado,” said GSIS president and general manager Jose Arnulfo “Wick” Veloso.

Veloso added that the initiative serves as the GSIS’s contribution to the government’s coordinated relief efforts for the public sector.

Under the relief scheme, eligible borrowers receive a single lump-sum refund equivalent to up to three months of loan amortizations, covering the period from December 2025 through February 2026.

While the program offers immediate liquidity, the GSIS clarified that regular loan deductions will continue and the loan terms will be extended by a corresponding period, though no additional interest or penalties will be applied.

To qualify for the payout, borrowers must have updated accounts with no arrears at the time of filing.

The fund is utilizing its GSIS Touch mobile app to manage the high volume of requests, allowing members to verify their eligibility and refundable amounts before submission.

Approved refunds are typically credited within three working days, and the application window remains open through the digital platform until October 31, 2026.
