The Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) is urging Filipinos to invest in the government’s latest Retail Treasury Bonds (RTB-31) to help fund priority projects.
“Investing in the RTBs presents an excellent opportunity for ordinary Filipinos to grow their hard-earned savings as it is an accessible and low-risk instrument that offers steady returns, aside from directly contributing to the realization of the development agenda of the Marcos administration,” DBP president and CEO Michael de Jesus said.
RTB-31, the 31st tranche of the Bureau of the Treasury’s bond program, marks the first time small-denominated government securities are available through electronic wallets such as GCash.
The initiative is part of the government’s efforts to democratize access to public debt instruments.
Investors can participate with as little asP5,000, earning up to 6% per annum, payable quarterly over the next five years, a rate higher than typical bank deposits and other investment products.
DBP is acting as one of the joint lead issue managers, alongside eight other financial institutions.
Proceeds from RTB-31 are earmarked for funding programs in agriculture, education, infrastructure, and healthcare, supporting the national government’s push for inclusive growth.
“The RTBs would also enable our countrymen to directly participate in nation-building as every peso they invest would help fuel the country’s march to sustainable and inclusive development,” de Jesus noted.
The public offer period runs through Aug. 15, and investors can subscribe via the Bureau of the Treasury website or through DBP, Land Bank of the Philippines, Metrobank, and Chinabank.
