DBP’s P2.5B NAIA loan wins international recognition

The Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) has been honored with the “Best Syndicated Loan Deal of the Year 2024” award by Alpha Southeast Asia, recognizing its significant contribution to the ₱52 billion syndicated loan for the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Project.

This acknowledgment underscores DBP’s pivotal role in the modernization of the Philippines’ main international airport, a project secured by the San Miguel-led New NAIA Infra Corp.

DBP president and CEO Michael O. de Jesus highlighted that this award reflects the bank’s commitment to supporting critical infrastructure development, aligning with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s vision for an improved and efficient national transportation network.

He emphasized that DBP’s participation in the NAIA project is geared towards enhancing air travel accessibility and efficiency for the public.

As the tenth largest bank in the Philippines by assets, DBP plays a crucial role in providing financial support to key sectors, including infrastructure and logistics.

DBP contributed ₱2.53 billion to the loan facility, which will fund the necessary capital expenditures for the NAIA rehabilitation, along with related transaction costs.

Alpha Southeast Asia, a prominent publication covering institutional investment and transactional banking in the region, recognized DBP’s achievement at its 18th Annual Best Deal and Solution Awards 2024. The awards assess the performance and growth of leading financial institutions in Southeast Asia.

De Jesus reiterated that DBP’s involvement in the NAIA project demonstrates the bank’s dedication to supporting the government’s strategic infrastructure investments. He also acknowledged the collaborative efforts between the public and private sectors in bridging infrastructure financing gaps and driving sustainable economic growth in the Philippines.
