64 years strong: Metrobank’s Fabian Dee leans on P3.9T assets to weather uncertainty, keep lending

Metropolitan Bank & Trust Co. is banking on strong capital and liquidity buffers to weather economic uncertainty while keeping credit flowing to businesses and consumers, its president said.

Chaired by bilyonaryo Arthur Ty, Metrobank posted ₱24.9 billion in net income in the first half of 2026 and had ₱3.9 trillion in consolidated assets.

“There are challenges ahead that we have to be prepared for, but Metrobank enters this environment with discipline, well-supported by our capital, liquidity, and risk buffers to help us navigate uncertainty and continue supporting our customers,” Metrobank president Fabian Dee said as the lender marked its 64th anniversary.

Dee said the bank’s financial position gives it room to continue lending and investing despite shifts in the economic and financial environment.

“Our financial strength allows us to continue lending, investing in our capabilities and supporting our customers through different market conditions,” he said.

Metrobank has expanded its digital services as more banking activity moves online, allowing customers to open eSavings accounts and invest in time deposits, unit investment trust funds and government securities through its digital channels.

The lender has also stepped up financial education and security initiatives through its Earnest program and Moneygurado docuseries, covering saving, investing, debt management and financial security.

For businesses, Metrobank offers credit, cash management, investment products and market research.

The Asian Banker has ranked Metrobank as the Strongest Bank in the Philippines for five consecutive years since 2021 and named it Best Managed Bank for 2025.

Metrobank has also maintained programs outside its core banking business through Metrobank Foundation, which supports education, health, livelihood, arts and community development.
